Water program teams to meet Feb. 1
The Ornamental & Environmental Horticulture, Nurseries & Master Gardener program team and the Water Resources program team will meet on Feb. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UC Davis ARC in Meeting Rooms 1, 2 and 3.
The two program teams will meet to form project teams that are interested in applying for grants in the next round of the ANR competitive grants program, and to discuss and propose new positions in response to the upcoming ANR call for new positions, said Doug Parker, director of the California Water Resources Research Institute.
The Ornamental & Environmental Horticulture, Nurseries & Master Gardener program team is composed of workgroups for Floriculture and Nursery, Landscape, Turfgrass and Urban Horticulture. The Water Resources program team is composed of the Anadromous and Inland Fish and Water Quality workgroups.
The Feb. 1 gathering is not a strategic initiative conference but a meeting of program teams and the workgroups under them. The program teams will be working to set a research agenda.
ANR provides resources for ANR employees to travel to program team meetings. In addition to their meetings at strategic initiative conferences, ANR supports one meeting per program team per year.
Other program teams that wish to meet on the same date to achieve efficiencies should contact Sherry Cooper as soon as possible so she can secure meeting space. Cooper can be reached at slcooper@ucdavis.edu and (530) 752-1581.

Program teams to meet in February
An ANR Program Teams Conference will be held at the Rec Pool Lodge at UC Davis, Feb. 7 - 9, 2012.
Program teams planning to participate thus far include:
- Healthy Behaviors for Preventing Childhood Obesity
- Youth Science Literacy in Nutrition, Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Youth Development
- California Communities
Preliminary plans call for discussion of cross-cutting issues and concerns at the beginning and end of the convening for these program teams, with the bulk of the time spent in individual program team and/or workgroup meetings.
Among the topics to be discussed are collaborative work on existing or new competitive grant proposals, proposals for new ANR academic positions, and development of the teams as ongoing “communities of practice” to advance strategic initiative priorities.
These program teams are still in a formative stage, and we welcome the participation of a wide spectrum of ANR personnel. Please mark Feb. 7 - 9 on your calendars to join us. Details on the agenda and meeting logistics will follow in the coming weeks and will also be posted at http://ucanr.org/sites/HFC.
Other program teams that wish to meet on these same dates to achieve efficiencies should contact Sherry Cooper as soon as possible so she can secure meeting space. She can be reached at slcooper@ucdavis.edu and (530) 752-1581.
